Learning Disabilities

{Lakeside Learning Solutions for students with Learning Disabilities. McKay Scholarships accepted!}

Lakeside Christian School offers an educational therapy program for students with a diagnosed learning disability. It is estimated that one in seven children in U.S. schools have some type of learning disability according to the National Institutes of Health. Lakeside Learning Solutions is accredited and trained by the National Institute for Learning Development to provide their unique therapy solutions for student’s grade 2 to 12. NILD Educational Therapy® was developed to treat assumed, underlying causes of learning difficulties rather than simply treating the symptoms. Students with learning disabilities receive weekly intensive educational therapy focused on the development of efficient thinking. Educational therapy is different from tutoring as it focuses on efficient learning processes while tutoring focuses on learning content. Students with learning disabilities are taught how to think rather than what to think. Educational Therapy works on skills aimed at improving basic learning skills. This helps the student with learning disabilities to learn and retain content.

Educational therapy helps students with learning disabilities to be better able to
:

  • Stay Focused
  • Retrieve knowledge from memory
  • Process and compute
  • Spell and write
  • Read and interpret visual information

Students with learning disabilities receive specific, customized mediated-learning strategies weekly over an average of three years in one on one or small group settings. Educational therapy is combined with direct instruction in Lakeside’s fundamental-academic focused classrooms to enhance and improve skills. Students receive a Resource Teacher as an advocate to link the intense therapy program with the high quality academics offered at Lakeside providing a truly integrated solution. McKay Scholarships are accepted.

Lakeside accepts students who currently have a 504 or IEP plan from a public school. McKay Scholarships are accepted by Lakeside Christian School to cover costs of any Learning Solutions program. The State of Florida's “school choice programs ensure that no child will be left behind by allowing parents to choose the best educational setting—public or private—for their child. The McKay Scholarships for Students with Learning Disabilities Program provided over 19,850 Florida students with special needs the opportunity to attend a participating private school during the 2007-08 school year.”
