Tutoring, After-School Programs and Academic Coach Program

Lakeside Learning Solutions, Academic Coach Program at Lakeside Christian School, offers a unique approach to help struggling students. Many parents seek the help of a costly tutoring service or after school program to assist their student that is disconnected from the classroom and schools they attend. At Lakeside, a student receives rigorous, grade-level coursework in the classroom and their parents can choose to enroll in a program offering the services of a Resource Teacher on site. This Resource Teacher is the “coach” in our Academic Coach program, providing tutoring as needed and an after-school program where homework and projects can be completed prior to the parents picking them up. An outside tutoring service does not have the direct connection to the classroom and the teacher during the day to gather the precise information needed to keep students on task. Lakeside’s Academic Coach Program provides the student an advocate who works with their classroom teachers and their parents to meet their educational needs. This benefits parents with more precise communication than is available from a tutoring service or after school program that is not part of their student’s current school. Students are offered a daily Resource class where their Academic Coach helps them with organizational skills, study skills, writing and reading strategies as well as a quick prep for any quiz or test scheduled that day. A tutoring and after school program integrated with daily resource classes provides students with significantly more structure than is available in outside tutoring or after school programs.

The goals of Lakeside Learning Solutions are to help students meet the demands of grade level coursework, become successful, develop self-awareness, and self-confidence. Resource classes assist in providing students hands-on demonstration of how to apply the learning strategies that come naturally to many students. Tutoring and after school programs combine in Lakeside’s unique integrated approach to make a struggling student, a successful student.
