Lakeside’s Academic Coach Program is an integrated, holistic solution to helping students in grade 6-12. The Academic Coach is a qualified Teacher who becomes a student’s advocate, coach, and support system to help them meet the needs of a challenging educational experience. The Academic Coach schedules a small group of students through weekly resource classes where they work on test and study prep, organizational skills, and study methods. Each morning, students report to their Academic Coaches Homeroom to check in homework and prepare for their day. At day’s end, they again check out with their Academic Coach making sure that their book bags contain the right books, study materials and an understanding of what homework, projects, or papers are due the next day. The Academic Coach is also an advocate to the parent acting as an interface to the students various teachers to ensure each parent is current on what is happening with their child’s schoolwork.
